What Happened to Spring?

Was I imagining it or did we see the sun for a few days last week?  Well, it was nice while it lasted, but let's hope it's back soon!

There's precious little colour in the garden so I treated myself to some tulips with the shopping.  You can't beat them for cheering the place up and I think they look gorgeous with a few hellebores and snowdrops.

Stay warm!

Greenhouse Spring Cleaning

Hello,  thank you so much for all the lovely comments on my crochet.  It's good to have a new project for the days when the weather isn't so great, but the last few days have seen some glorious sunshine and the ground has dried up enough to make being in the garden a pleasure again.  The veg plot is looking fairly tidy so I tackled the greenhouse.  It was in a sorry state, full of dead plants, and weedy gravel and covered in green muck!  I chucked out loads of stuff and cleaned everything,  put in a couple of chairs and jollied it up with some flowery bunting stuff and the lanterns from the garden.

I think I'll do less of the veg this year and more ornamental plants so that it's a lovely place to sit, even if the weather's rubbish, like last year!  I've got lots of scented pelargoniums and streptocarpus on order and want to try some more exotic and fragrant things rather than the peppers and aubergines that are usually a waste of time.  Roll on summer!

Free Pattern

Just a quick update with a link to the pattern for the crochet block, if anyone wants to know.  This site is great for lots of free patterns and I hadn't come across it before.  Obviously way behind the times!  Anyway, if you download the Bags and Purses eBook from  Here  it has the pattern and an easy to follow chart on page 15.  (Home page www.crochetme.com )

More Crochet

Hello,  I'm still here, but haven't been around internet-land recently due to our phone line suddenly dying again!  A fault at the exchange apparently, meaning a few days cold turkey from e-mails, blogs, pinterest, etc etc.  Actually I didn't miss it too much and found myself digging out books to read, tidying shelves and catching up with some of the stuff  I've recorded on TV while turning out this little rainbow of blocks ready for my next blanket.

Don't they look pretty!  The plan is to make about 4 of each colour then add a white border to each one and arrange them roughly in a similar rainbow order rather than randomly like I usually do.  I think they would look lovely without the white too, maybe joined at the points, as you go.  Perhaps I'll do that next time!  There's a whole mixture of brands here, all washable merino or wool.  Most are leftover balls from past blankets, or ones that I bought and then decided not to use.  The pattern is from the book "200 Crochet Blocks" by Jan Eaton, altered just slightly in the 3rd round by changing every 3rd treble into a chain to give a more lacy feel.  It's an easy and popular block,  I've seen loads on the internet, but that's the beauty of crochet. Even with the same pattern, every project will turn out different and special to the maker :)

Right, better go and catch up with some housework!
Bye for now.

New Crochet Blanket!

Hello,  I hope you're all OK.   It's good to see a bit of sun today, though it's still really cold and windy. Hopefully it'll help the garden dry up a bit so we can get on with things out there.

I haven't been feeling like doing much crafting either.  The low light levels just make you want to snuggle under a blanket and hibernate 'till spring, don't they?

I think I sorted out my sewing machine by simply changing the thread.  The spool I was using seemed to be a dud one, the cotton not looking as smooth as usual.  Surprising how a small thing can make a big difference.  The quilt top is still waiting to be finished though,  I got side tracked into having a sort out of my room and getting rid of some stuff.  It was the turn of the wool today.  Out it all came while I tried to decide what to do with it all.

I've got plans for a new blanket using as much of my stash as possible.  Haven't decided on a pattern yet, but I think using lots of off white with all the different lighter shades should look pretty.  Can't wait to get started now, but I'd better finish the sewing first!

Bye for now.
