Spring in the Garden

Hello,  I hope you're having a good Easter weekend.  The sun is shining at last, though it's still quite chilly and the grass was white with frost this morning.   One place that's lovely and warm is the green house where the little fuchsia and streptocarpus plantlets that I ordered a few weeks ago have been living.  I've had the fan heater on  low, especially at night, so finger's crossed they'll be ok.

Everything in the garden is so late, but seems to be finally catching up.

We always have a pair of blue tits nesting in one of the boxes.  They must make hundreds of trips back and forth with nesting material and then food, and often have a second brood in the summer.  I hope there's enough grubs and caterpillars for them this year, it's been so cold and wet I'm sure there will be less around.

There's been a lot of goldfinches around too, collecting fluffy seed heads. They're so colourful, like they've been dipped in paint!  I managed to snap this one through the window.

Thank you for stopping by, and lets hope spring is really on it's way!

Naughty Whippet

Ooh! what's this?  Looks like Mum's finally got round to sewing her latest quilt top together.  She's such a spoilsport though,  told me not to think about jumping all over it while she wonders what to use for the back.  As if!!!

Good job she wasn't watching while I had fun jumping all over the sofa instead.  I think she likes tidying up after me, gives her something to do :)

Spring Decorating

Hello, I hope all you Mums out there had a lovely day on Sunday.  My Eldest sent a beautiful bunch of freesias and tulips which smell gorgeous and add a much needed sunny glow to the place!   Younger daughter made me a pretty tulip picture.  Not her usual style, but she knows what I like :)

Although it was still bitterly cold yesterday, the sun shone and it felt like a good time to re-arrange the mantelpiece for spring.  A bit OTT?  Yes, probably, but it makes me smile!
I did something similar last year on 23rd Feb and my Anemones had been flowering for a while.  This year they're only just in bud, which shows how cold it's been :(

Bye for now

Red Kites

Hello,  I feel like I should have something crafty to show you, but there hasn't been much of that happening recently!   The nicer weather got me in the mood for a bit of spring cleaning and moving things around a bit, and made pottering in the garden a pleasure again.

I've been trying to get some photos of the red kites that seem to have taken up residence nearby but never seem to have my camera handy.  There have been some in the area for a few years but I've never noticed them over my garden before, but last week saw 5 of them circling round, quite low, a beautiful sight, and a distinctive call.  I don't know if they are a threat to wood pigeons, but they seem to spook them into flying off in huge flocks.  I imagine a dummy one would be good for keeping them away from the veg plot!

Anyway, there's some info about them Here and lots of pic's like this on Google

Here's my rubbish shots taken through the kitchen window.

Hopefully I'll get some better ones when I'm out in the garden more!

P.S.  Sorry, but I've had to put word verification back on.  The amount of spam getting through is driving me nuts.  Do they really get anyone checking out their sites when the comments don't even make sense :(
