Loving the Sunshine!

Hello,  isn't it wonderful to see such blue sky and feel the heat of the sun at last?
Lottie's doing the rounds of the sunny bits of the house.

It's great to be able to hang out the blankets again.  There never seems to be anywhere to dry them in the winter.

The tulips are looking beautiful, but don't last all that long in the sun.

The pelargoniums are growing well.  I ordered a few of my absolute favourites, so that I've got something to do in the greenhouse this year.  I'm really hoping for a conservatory or garden room on our next house to fill with lovely scented plants.

This one, p. odoratissimum had self seeded in the gravel on the greenhouse floor.  It smells so strongly of apples. Gorgeous.  Other favourites are Attar of Roses,  Rober's Lemon Rose, Tomentosum (very minty) and Lady Plymouth.  There are dozens and I've grown most of them over the years, but unless you've got somewhere warm for them to overwinter it's often easier to start with new ones each year.

The frogspawn in our little pond had turned into hundreds of tadpoles

Opening up the greenhouse this morning I was met with this chap.  Is it a young goldfinch?  He must have flown in the window and couldn't figure out how to get out, but was soon on his way.

Coming back indoors, this little blue tit had landed in the utility room and was spinning round on it's back.  It seems like the sun is making everyone a bit giddy!

Hope you all have a good bank holiday weekend.  Looks like it might be barbeque time again :)

  5. Oh you spoke too soon the sun has gone in today and it is a little colder hope it picks up again or I will have something to say about it. I lost all my scented geraniums over winter as the greenhouse isn't heated. But I will definitely buy some more as I just love the scent. The cream stripey tulips are lovely.

  7. Wow, so many tadpoles! Your tulips look really stunning in the sunshine, wish I had more in my garden - well next year perhaps. My dog, Beanie is a bit like Lottie and moves around the house with the sun!
    Have a good weekend.

  11. Hard to tell what the bird is from the back view but it seems very early for a young fully fledged goldfinch, Was it greenish or more brown? PHotos change colours a bit sometimes.

    1. It was quite greenish like a greenfinch, but the bars on the wings make me think it was a goldfinch. Now I've looked in my bird book I'm pretty sure it was a siskin! xx

    2. Funnily enough I was going to suggest that it might be a female siskin - just needed to make sure of the greenish colour. WE have a pair at the moment and I have posted photos of the male on my blog. He has a black cap

  13. Lottie is certainly enjoying the sunshine, it's funny how animals know just where to lie to make the most of it. Your tulips are beautiful, I'm still waiting for mine to flower.

  17. Typical whippet ... my lot are all asleep in the sun at the moment too. And does Lottie do that thing where they clearly overheat and pant like mad but don't move into the shade?

Those pelargoniums are going to look absolutely lovely, and the tulips already do. I so wish we had a bigger garden here, I have space to grow so little.

    1. Yes I usually take lots of cuttings but didn't manage to keep them all going last year as I didn't heat the greenhouse.
